2019 dmi: Design Value Awards

At the Design Management Institute Leadership Conference in Boston, they announced the winners of the 2019 dmi:Design Value Awards. These awards recognized teams who have delivered significant value through design or design management practices. The Live Well Collaborative, in partnership with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, received a third place award.

Through a partnership between Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and the Live Well Collaborative, a three-step device, named the ADL 1-2-3 device, was created to encourage patients to follow three Activities of Daily Living: bathing, getting out of bed, and practicing oral care to reduce the risk of Bloodstream Infections in pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant patients. The remarkable success of this device improved adherence, allowed for reduction in nursing staff workload burdens, improved the cost of healthcare by reducing infection rates, and allowed patients to stay on their treatment schedule. The ADL 1-2-3 device is a wonderful example of utilizing vetted design thinking methodologies to create impact, encourage positive change, and substantiate value in the development of life-changing solutions.
